Note To Self:

Don't ever wear shorts to pick up hay, especially when there is lespedeza and red top mixed in.
3 hours, 2 trips back to the barn, and 150 bales later my legs are tore up. (looks worse in person)

(yes, those socks are mismatched and yes, I did that on purpose)

Mom said that grandpa wouldn't helping so I would drive the truck and the boys would throw the bales on the truck, well that didn't happen lol. Grandpa insisted on going out to the field even though he really shouldn't have, so he drove the truck and trailer and I picked up hay with the boys. Not that I minded, I just would have rather had jeans on. For some reason Dad invited our youth pastor to pick up hay with us. He doesn't seem to have the ability to stop talking lol. I'm not kidding he had to have talked for 3 hours straight. Anyway we made it though Friday and probably created a monster in the process, oh well, his wife can deal with him now lol.

On the second trip back to grandpa's barn with the trailer full of hay, John rode on top of the hay stacked 5 or 6 bales high.
I called it a "red neck roller coaster" who needs 6 flags when you have a hay trailer and a winding country road? :)

We had to pick the hottest day to pick up hay didn't we? September 2nd and it was 102* out. Fortunatly there was a breeze but still, it was hot. Of course now, 2 days later, you almost need a jacket on outside. I'll probably be wearing on tonight at the bonfire down by the river. Makes me think of the song Bonfire by Craig Morgan:

You can see it from the river
to the top of white pine ridge
burning like a summer sun
a bunch of rednecks getting half lit
there's mud-covered trucks and SUVs
cranking up hank and ac/dc

At the bonfire, out in the sticks
country backwoods, homegrown hicks
bonfire, dance a little jig,
hold up your cup and take another swig
won't sleep til dawn, party right down to the wire
at the bonfire

I'm gonna go change out of my Sunday clothes now and go water the horses, I'll see ya'll at the river tonight :)

Purple!

I did it, yup I died my hair purple. It's so cool! It's only supposed to last a few weeks but it's still pretty awesome. As shy as I was when I was younger I never thought that I would do something that would get so many stares, but I've grown out of my shyness and have a head of purple hair to prove it.

It was quite a shock to look in the mirror after it was done and see purple were auburn used to be, but I love it! I didn't bleach it first so my auburn hair will be back eventually.

Me, The Night Owl

I do my best thinking late at night, it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to get up in the morning. It's so quiet, everyone is in bed including mom, so there aren't any "Hey Becka, can you...." coming along every 5 mins, I don't mind it that much it's just nice to have an hour or so to myself without interruptions (save for the little tick that I just found on my leg, little nuisance must have hopped off one of the goats). I love to write but it's hard to do when you can't sit and think during the day, so this is my favorite time of the day (err, night). I started reading a new book last night,  Anne Of  Green Gables. I've seen the cartoon (when the tv works, not that I really care either way) but never thought to read the book, I've only read about 1 1/2 chapters but I really like what I've read so far. I'll have to read some more tomorrow while the sibs are doing schoolwork and my cheese is cooking.
Well as much as I don't want to I'd better go to sleep now, I want to start a batch of feta cheese in the morning since Erin over at Flying French Toast's mom wants some and I'd like to try soaking a batch in brine for salad night at church next Wednesday. Yes, I said salad night lol and this Wednesday night was ice cream night.
What can I say, Baptists love to eat lol and in our tiny (and I mean tiny, less than 300 people tiny) town any excuse to get together and eat is a good one.
Gnite :)

Milking time

This is what it looks like outside the door at milking time.
11 goats wanting to come in, only 4 get to. How will this turn out?
All the girls and the babies waiting patiently (sorta) for their turn to come inside. The babies and Esau the wether (the black one) never seem to understand why they don't get let in lol.

Look At All The Babies!

Sunday day we had an explosion of baby goats. We were getting ready to go to Sunday school so it was about 9:00. Dad went to check on Cassie and he said she was making noises and pawing at the dirt. I went and looked and she looked the same as she did last year, a full week before she kidded. So I thought we would be fine to go to church. Mom wasn't feeling good and dad wasn't ready to go yet so the 5 of us kids left in my car and headed off to Sunday school. Barely 45 minutes go by and Daniel comes into my classroom and says to call Dad cause Cassie is kidding (figures huh?). I called Dad back and he said that he thought she was having trouble with the 2nd one (she had already had one in the time it took for me to call them back.)  Fortunately I was only 10 minutes away so I went home, changed lightening fast and went to the barn. She ended up doing fine on her own with the 2nd baby, all I had to do was free it from the sac because it didn't pop, but the 3rd one was breach so I helped her out just to make sure the little girl didn't suffocate. Then we were drying off number 3 there came the 4th baby! 4 baby goats, and all does! We were joking the last week or so that she might have three since she was so huge but no one really expected it, and definitely not 4 does.
Later that day Mom and Dad went to town and not 10 minutes after they left another goat started having her babies! Naomi had 2, 6lb does that are nearly identical except for one small brown spot.
What a week, in 4 days we had 3 does kid, a total of 7 does and 2 bucks. They were all due on Thursday, Zippi had hers that day and Cassie and Naomi waited until Sunday to have theirs. We now have 17 goats, 12 does/doelings, 4 bucks/bucklings, and 1 wether.  In 2 years we are going to be overflowing with milk. :)

Zipporah's new babies

Today we had 3 little babies born from one of our 3 year old does, Zippi. She is taking after her mom Annie, she started with twin boys and today she had 2 colorful boys and 1 little girl that looks just like her mama.

Jemima (bottom) and her brothers

We're still working on names for the boys but we decided to name the little girl Jemima. In Hebrew Jemima means Dove.  Any suggestions for the boys? The only requirement is that they are either Hebrew or Biblical.

So Much For That Idea...

Ok so I've only posted once for this challenge oops, but I do have a good excuse. The internet went out the next day and whenever I went to town to do homework for college I didn't give this place a thought it was just go in, get done, go home. Ok enough excuses on to my post.... :)

A favorite movie.
Hmm another favorite post, I don't particularly like these, I mean there are so many ones that I like how can I pick just one? And If I do, won't the others feel bad? lol just kidding. I really like Startrek but I really don't think that qualifies as a movie, and I haven't really watched the Startrek movies. I guess for now I'll say that my favorite, is Ever After. It's the story of Cinderella retold by a lady who says she is her great, great (maybe a few more greats) granddaughter. I don't usually like mushy girly love stories, but this one was pretty good, good enough that I might have to watch a girly movie every so often. lol

Day One!

ok, here I go with "Day One".

A favorite song, hmm well there are allot of songs that I really like but at the moment one of my favorites is Wildflower by the JaneDeer Girls

Mmmm... yeah yeah ah yeah
I was born off an old dirt road,
Forty acre farm, no highway, no interstate.
And I drive an old rusted out Chevrolet,
The boys all rubber neck while they're out makin' hay

Hey, I'm a wild flower growin' in the sunshine,
Soakin' up the way of life I was raised in.
Runnin' barefoot, bloomin' in a summer shower,
Ponytail dancin', I can't help it,
I-I'm a wildflower.
Ooh yeah Ooh yeah

There's a little cotton dress hangin' in my sister's closet.
I think I'm gonna borrow it and wear it this weekend.
Painted my toes, bought some cherry lip gloss.
No rose, no daisy, can't touch what I got.

Yeah, I'm a wild flower growin' in the sunshine,
Soakin' up the way of life I was raised in.
Runnin' barefoot, bloomin' in a summer shower,
Ponytail dancin', I can't help it,
I-I'm a wildflower.
Ooh yeah Ooh yeah

I'm just a girl that needs a little sun,
A little rain, an open field to play
Hey, I'm a wild flower growin' in the sunshine,
Soakin' up the way of life I was raised in.
Runnin' barefoot, bloomin' in a summer shower,
Ponytail dancin', I can't help it,
I-I'm a wildflower.

Hey, I'm a wild flower growin' in the sunshine,
Soakin' up the way of life I was raised in.
Runnin' barefoot, bloomin' in a summer shower,
Ponytail dancin', I can't help it,

I-I'm a wildflower.
Ooh yeah Ooh yeah

I'm a wildflower
Ooh yeah Ooh yeah
I'm a wildflower
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm a wildflower

Rabbits!

I love my bunnies! They are so cute and cuddly, *most* of the time lol I have scrapes all over my arms from bunny tantrums. I think I've gone bunny crazy, I now have more rabbits than goats, but fortunately rabbits take up less space than goats so they aren't everywhere but it's going to seem that way pretty soon since I have does due in 2 weeks, I can't wait! :) I'll hopefully be putting pictures on here and on my farm blog.  All of the babies will be for sale if anyone wants one or two or... I'm hoping to find out about going to farmer's markets with my young rabbits and goats milk when the girls start milking again.
